DAILY CHOICES: What to do on Monday, August 20


ART: Through August 31, Black Radish Studio (274 N. Goodman St., Ste. 501) has on display a showing of work by five contemporary Pakistani artists, entitled, “nineteen-forty seven,” for the year that the nation gained its independence. KIDS: Head to the Seneca Park Zoo and watch zookeepers interact with and feed various animals today, including tortoises & lions (10:30 a.m.), primates (1:30 p.m.), and penguins & baboons (3:30 p.m.). At 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m., check out the “Close Encounters of the Bird Kind” stage show. The zoo is located at 2222 St. Paul St., and is open today 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $7-$10, or free for members and children age 2 and under. RECREATION: Enjoy a public tour of the Vineyard at Casa Larga (287 Turk Hill Road, Fairport) today and each day through November 21. Tours depart at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 3 p.m., and cost $5 for the tour with a tasting, and $7 also gets you a commemorative glass. This event is for ages 21 and over. Private tours are also available. MUSIC: Avoid those Monday-night drags with a triple-threat bill of local bands at the Bug Jar. California Cousins headlines, with The Setbacks, The Reactions, and Josh Segal performing in support. MUSIC: Don’t we all wish we were in Dixie a little more often? Tonight you get a chance to get to hear some local Dixieland music, and you won’t just have to rely on wishing you were there. Join the Flower City Jazz Society at the Green Lantern Inn at 1 E. Church St. in Fairport for Ed Clute Dixie 5 Plus.
