At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, two County Legislature committees will hold a public hearing on the Monroe Community College 2012-13 budget.
Each year, the county votes on MCC’s budget and must hold a public hearing before doing so. The $122.3 million budget covers operating expenses and doesn’t include funding for a planned downtown campus move, says MCC spokesperson Cynthia Cooper. The purchase and renovation of a building for use as a downtown campus would be considered a capital project, and those are approved by the college separately as they come up, Cooper says.
Wednesday’s hearing will take place during a joint meeting of the Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee and Recreation and Education Committee.
As for the Legislature’s other committees, most meetings for the month have been canceled, due to lack of legislation concerning them. The only other committee that will meet this month is Public Safety, whose meeting was rescheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday.
All of the meetings are held at the County Office Building, 39 West Main Street. – JEREMY MOULE
